November 14, 2005: Lt. Governor Toni Jennings, Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer and Orange County Mayor Richard Crotty recently announced a pilot program--"Focus on Achievement: The Florida Mentoring Partnership's Program for Struggling Schools," aimed at helping Florida's struggling schools improve student performance. City and county mayors are leading the charge to recruit government, corporate and local leaders as mentors to help students within their own communities.

May 3, 2005: The Corporation for National and Community Service is encouraging organizations to apply for approximately $1.5 million in grant funds to support "the next generation" of national service programs. Eligible applicants include public and private non-profit organizations, including faith-based and other community-based organizations.
